Melbourne has consistently been ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit. A cosmopolitan city with a cohesive and stable society, Melbourne is a cultural and entertainment hub for tourists and residents alike.
Melbourne’s world-class healthcare system, education and infrastructure has seen it become one of the most attractive destinations to live, study and work.
As we enter into a new decade of growth, and emerge from the effects of the global pandemic, many opportunities and challenges will present themselves to emerging leaders. Remaining globally competitive and retaining strong economic growth will require the city to adopt a new strategic direction.
In a post-pandemic decade of transformation, Melbourne will also need to ensure that it is at the forefront of future city and workplace design, and be seen as a leading region for trade and investment within Asia Pacific. Above all, it requires strong leadership and must remain community-focused.
On 22 August 2019, APELA was launched at its inaugural event in Melbourne, a panel discussion on “Establishing Your Cross Border Presence”.
Industry leaders from diverse disciplines shared their experiences and insights with 100+ emerging leaders of various fields. We are grateful to our panellists, Joel Backwell (Department of Education & Training, Victoria), Louie Liu (Westpac), Jared Heath (Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) & Corrs Chambers Westgarth) and Benson Zhou (Savills) for their wisdom and for a thought-provoking discussion.
A special thank you to Savills Australia & New Zealand, and to Sharon Xiang from Westpac for supporting the evening.
